WAHS students receive Oregon Scholastic Art Awards

Posted on: January 23, 2019

The Oregon Scholastic Art Awards were announced over the weekend and West Albany had 41 students receive awards totaling 20 Gold Keys, 38 Silver Keys, and 65 Honorable Mentions. Five of our seniors who submitted art portfolios received awards for those, three of them receiving gold keys! (The Art Portfolio is only open to Seniors and is a collection of 8 pieces that are created around a central concept.)

Below is a list of the individual winners (please scroll the image to see the full listing of West Albany award recipients). They are listed in alphabetical order with their grade level, the level of recognition they received, the title of their artwork and the category in which they received their award.

The Gold and Silver Key works will be on display in the Library for the Month of February during our Winter Art Show along with AP Studio’s Breadth Portfolios, Fashion Illustrations Final “Trashion” Projects, and a selection of other strong examples of artwork from the various art classes offered during first semester.

Please join us, the art students and parents, for the Winter Art Show Reception next Thursday January 31st at 5:00 pm. If you can’t make the reception don’t forget to stop by sometime during the month of February to check out the artwork!

Gold Key winning artwork will move on to Oregon State University in March for a Willamette Valley Region show and award ceremony as well as competing at the National level. We will find out in March if anyone received National Honors.
