Graduation

To earn an Honors Diploma students are required to earn 24 credits, but must also meet the additional requirements listed below as part of their educational experience at West Albany High School.  Honors diploma students are denoted in the graduation program, on the student’s transcript, and with an honor cord worn at commencement.

• English:  at least one credit in an Advanced Placement (AP) or college prep course
• Mathematics:  at least one credit at or above Algebra II
• An Advanced Placement (AP) class OR the fourth year of a World Language
• World Language:  at least two credits
• Satisfactory completion of a college application as part of a Personal Education Plan
• Cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher
• Mastery of essential skills requirements
   

In order to be designated a Valedictorian at West Albany High School, the following criteria must be met:

• Have the highest GPA computed for all eight high school semesters;
• Achieve an exceeding score (level 4) on Oregon Smarter Balanced Assessments in Reading, Writing, Math, and Science, or use one of the test scores below to satisfy this requirement;

• Complete the Bulldog Achievement Award;
• Attend 4 years of high school, taking a minimum of six classes each semester;
• Have a minimum four (4) credits each in Social Studies, Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science;
• Complete a minimum of seven (7) Advanced Placement (AP) classes from the list of courses below (at least 2 must be taken from the Humanities and 2 from Math/Science, plus 3 more of your choosing);

• Take at least one AP Exam;
• Act with respect, honesty, integrity, courage, personal responsibility, self-discipline, kindness, justice, and social responsibility.  If a student’s behavior is in question, Site Council will conduct a review.
