Students and Families

The West Albany Booster Club is a volunteer group of parents, organized to support extracurricular activities that can enrich students’ lives while they attend WAHS. We show support of WAHS and our students by our fundraising efforts for sports activities, clubs, leadership groups, future business leaders, drama, dance team, band, and other all-school groups. Valid requests from these groups for help funding projects are carefully reviewed to decide allocations.

We realize academics are important; however, participation in mutual interest clubs, sports, and other non-academic activities are also an important part of being in high school. Booster Club members provide the support to help make it a positive experience for our students.

It takes all of us to make WAHS Boosters successful. Please join us so that you, too, can enjoy the “Booster Club” experience…we do it for the kids!

West Albany offers a rich variety of extra-curricular activities, and we encourage all students to participate. Research clearly indicates students who stay involved in school activities, clubs, and athletics are far more likely to be successful in all measures of school performance.

We hold high expectations for all who participate in our extra curricular programs. Students who represent our school and community in clubs, contests, performances, and sporting events are expected to abide by the Valley League Code of Conduct. In addition to clear expectations about abstinence from drug, alcohol, and tobacco use, we expect students to be present in all classes on the day of any performance or contest. Participants are expected to model character and class for fellow students, parents, staff and community members, consistent with Administrative Rule 5501. These expectations are in effect during the entire calendar year. Violation or failure to live up to these expectations may result in ineligibility and removal from participation.

Clubs

The varied club programs at WAHS offers students the opportunity to become involved in many areas of special interest. There are three types of clubs: Interest, Honorary, and Service. Clubs are chartered by the school and must meet the following standards:

• Must be directly connected to the school.
• Must deposit and disburse all funds through the school business office.
• The advisor must be acceptable to the school and must attend all meetings of the club.

Driver Education is available through Linn-Benton Community College. Courses are approved by the Oregon Department of Transportation Traffic Safety Division and utilize their curriculum.

As a gift to graduating seniors at West Albany High School, parents of the graduating class help to organize a Senior All-Night Party. This event happens every year immediately following graduation. For the graduating class of 2026, the Senior All-Night Party will happen immediately following graduation on June 4th, 2026 at the YMCA here in Albany.

Student Body officers have various roles in creating change in our school and community.

• The President oversees the other members and can give insight into new events to add to our school or community.
• The two Vice Presidents assist in executing these ideas and can step in for the President.
• The School Board Representative goes to school board meetings and reports on West Albany’s extracurricular activities and community events as well as being a student voice in the meetings.
• The two Site Council Representatives meet with staff and review student suggestions to make changes at West Albany to benefit the entirety of the student body.

Class officers make decisions for class-run events and funds to benefit their individual classes. Classes are responsible for different dances. Officers coordinate service projects, Air Guitar, and class-specific events among other responsibilities. Class officer positions include President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary.
