GAPS Students Take Top Placements at OSAA State Solo & OMEA State Chamber Contests / Los estudiantes de GAPS obtienen las mejores posiciones en los concursos de la cámara estatal OSAA State Solo y OMEA State Chamber

Posted on: June 3, 2021

Several GAPS high school student musicians finished the year out strong by placing in the Top 2 of their distinct level contest at the Oregon School Activities Association (OSAA) State Solo and Oregon Music Education Association (OMEA) State Chamber Ensemble Festival.

Due to the pandemic, both festivals were held virtually. Students recorded their performances at home or at school, and submitted a video recording for online adjudication. Each student then received feedback from a professional specialist in their instrument.

Normally, soloists would have the ability to work with their director or a private teacher to prepare for contests such as OSAA and OMEA, but these students had to practice almost entirely on their own and in their own homes. The chamber ensembles were in a similar situation with limited rehearsal time and instruction.

“It is a huge tribute to their tenacity, professionalism and dedication that all of these students have achieved such a high degree of musical excellence under such difficult circumstances,” West Albany High School Director of Bands Stuart Welsh said.

Many students received high placements due to their dedication and hard work towards musical achievement. Given the circumstances of our school year, these students deserve a round of applause for their commitment to creating music and accomplishing high ratings at the state level.

“I am incredibly grateful to have such wonderful, dedicated students. Throughout this year, we have been able to find unconventional ways to make music and keep students involved in this activity for which they have amazing passion,” Welsh said. “They deserve all the credit in the world for their wonderful accomplishments”.

Please congratulate our high school musicians on their outstanding performance!
