Dear Students and Parents,

We are so excited at the prospect of being together in person. We have truly missed the comprehensive high school experience and the connections to our students and families. While there are still state metrics for us to meet, the goal remains to be ready for our return to hybrid (in-person) learning at the beginning of second semester.

The biggest element in the process of determining the hybrid schedule and how to return to school in the safest and most effective way possible was to first set the schedule. Our plan is to keep our current schedule.

2021 Student Paths Grades 6-12

High Schools Current Schedule

REASONS WE KEPT OUR CURRENT SCHEDULE

  • Consistency
    • Through feedback, staff, students, and parents have communicated an overwhelming amount of support for the current schedule.
    • Keeping the same schedule will allow for the smoothest transition from virtual to hybrid learning.
    • Should we have to return to virtual learning at any time, keeping the schedule also allows for a smooth transition between hybrid and virtual learning.
  • Lunch hour
    • Keeping our schedule continues to ensure our HS students are able to have lunch that aligns with lunch deliveries (free district lunches).
    • Many of our upperclassmen have an open period the last period of the day, and therefore our Juniors and Seniors are able to finish their school day at lunch. This leaves mostly Freshmen and Sophomores on campus during lunch, which means eating lunch while not wearing masks is much more manageable for social distancing and safety measures.
  • Office hours
    • As students shared in the survey, office hours have been a highly beneficial addition to our schedule. Teachers will continue to be available from 1:45 pm – 2:30 pm on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday to work one-on-one with students.
    • Should athletics/activities resume as planned per OSAA schedule, the office hour time frame ensures coaching staff and students still have access to help.
    • Students who are on asynchronous days (explained below) will still have access to their teachers when not in-person.

Student hybrid classes will have no more than 16 students. Safety screening will take place before school each day as students enter. We will follow the Oregon’s Ready Schools, Safe Learners Guidance protocols at all times, including:

  • Physical Distancing – Classrooms/seating arrangements set up following ODE requirements of 35 square feet per person in a room and maintaining six feet between individuals when feasible. Six feet will also be maintained while in hallways, restrooms, and entering and exiting buildings as best as possible.
  • Face CoveringsMandated to be worn by all students and staff indoors and outdoors, including during outdoor recess. The district will provide two cloth face coverings for each staff member and student and additional face coverings will be available in all buildings.
  • Hand Hygiene – Every classroom has a sink and/or hand sanitizer provided. Hand sanitizer stations are at all main entrances. Soap and paper towels provided at classroom sinks.
  • Cleaning and Disinfecting -. When cohorts are moving between rooms, and throughout the day as needed, the common touch surfaces in the room will be cleaned and disinfected with Alpha-HP.
  • Airflow and ventilation – The district is increasing the outside air ventilation rates (up to 100%) and/or increasing the MERV value of the unit filters to MERV 13 in all buildings.
  • And, effective screening protocols (Staff | Students), and responses to cases with quick access to testing and implementing isolation and quarantining

The district also has updated exclusion guidelines for families to follow if a student becomes symptomatic or is a close contact of a confirmed case. Families can also consult the “When should I keep my students home?” document In the event of positive cases, the district is utilizing the following COVID-19 Scenarios flow chart based on consultation with ODE and local public health authorities.

TIMELINE

New metrics timeline grade 9-12

We know hybrid learning will not work for all students and families. The comprehensive distance learning option will still be available for those who choose.

Thank you for your continued support. Together, we can continue to work together for the success of our kids! We will host a student/parent forum at each high school this Thursday, December 17th at 6:00pm to answer any questions you may have. The zoom link will be sent by your school to your email through school messenger. Please reach out to principals if you have any questions and cannot attend the forum: South Albany principal, John.Hunter@albany.k12.or.us; West Albany principal, Susie.Orsborn@albany.k12.or.us

All parents and guardians MUST fill out our Student Selection for 9-12 Learning Form for all high school students. Families have through Sunday, December 27th to make their selections.

Estimados estudiantes y padres:

2021 Student Paths Grades 6-12 Spanish

HORARIO ACTUAL PARA SAHS Y WAHS

High Schools Current Schedule Spanish

RAZONES POR LAS QUE MANTENIMOS NUESTRO HORARIO ACTUAL

  • Consistencia

Hunter@albany.k12.or.us; Directora de West Albany, Susie.Orsborn@albany.k12.or.us.
